U.S. Social Security Administration Ends Paper Checks, Mandates Electronic Payments
The Social Security Administration will discontinue physical benefit checks after September 30 as part of a modernization push aimed at improving efficiency and reducing fraud risks. Nearly 400,000 recipients still receiving paper payments must transition to direct deposit or prepaid debit cards.
Beneficiaries can enroll in direct deposit through their "my Social Security" portal or opt for the government's Direct Express card program. The move follows broader financial digitization trends, though no cryptocurrency payment options are currently offered for federal benefits.
